I could take a shot at some sprite designs, are we going for girl or boy? EDIT. Well, I asked M256 and Noyemi if it was fine, now I'll ask the rest of you. Do you mind if I come on as content director? I'll be right to work on this stuff so I can bring some concepts to you all, and if there is another person designated I'll just give my notes and stuff to that person.

Lemme just preface this by saying that this might sound like a bunch of rambling, but I've been thinking about how to get a solid concept down for this game, and I just gotta share it here. Who knows, it might actually be of use to y'all.
Well, the protagonist could be either dreaming of being on tv, watching tv, or dreaming of images/shows they saw on tv. For the first two, the nexus (if we end up having one) could be a channel select of sorts. And of course, as was mentioned before, each "dream" could be a tv channel. But then, if we treated each dream as a tv show, would these dreams have to be linear, like an actual tv show (generally speaking)? If so, then we might have to get rid of the open-ended wandering that is so customary of yn fangames. But if we still want that open exploration aspect, then we'd probably just have to keep it like the normal dream setup with probably more characterization in NPC's to establish a world/setting; something to tie in the tv show feeling. Also, the television aspect could either have something to do with the protag themself; it could either play the television aspect up to have a deeper meaning and really say something about the character's subconscious/mental state, which could make the game darker, like-say-.flow. Or, it could just be a fun, lighthearted aspect and make it seem a lot lighter, like lcddem and (generally) yume 2kki. If we're going for the more serious subconcious option, then here is a little inspiration for what the tv-like dreams could mean: dreammoods.com/cgibin/dreamdictionarysearch.pl?method=exact&header=dreamsymbol&search=tv Also important aspects to talk about: Will there be dialogue in the game? If so, how much? Would it be like the amount in The Looking Glass, or the amount in Me? Do we want a female/male/etc. protag, or does it not really matter? (important for those designing possible protagonist concepts)
Also Moga, hell yeah. Direct those concepts . It's a yay from me.

I would say we should allow dialogue but not require it - however, we should definitely make a standard for whether the protagonist normally talks or not.

I am opting for silent since that is less to translate if it does get to that point, also dialogue can put people off. Just my sense of it though. Also I have some sketches for possible pro tags in bound.

I agree, a (mostly) silent protagonist works best, especially with so many people working on one project. Maybe some situations or maps, but not for the entire game.
Also a yay from me for Moga as content director.
As for the tv show thing, Robin... if we do go that route, I think open world works fine, or even a mix of linear for some maps and open for others. Like, one's an episodic open series, another is a linear, continuing story line. We could go the "each channel is linear, finishing every channel helps unlock the ending" too, but since this seems like a game that would be updated with more and more channels, not too sure how well that would work.

To side track a moment to the protag- we need to get them designed first. So! Both me and m256 have made some designs up and for the next few days if someone else has some, sketches are welcome! It is preferred to have sketches instead of pixels at this point so we can keep options open for how to suite our mystery protag the best. Some notes: A: is probably a vampire or necromancer. B: cat boi C: stay at home mom D: beach/s8ter boy E: fat video otaku F: geeky girl who is friends with fat otaku. here are my idea, a few of them at least. But yeah in a few days or so we will do several polls so we can get started on more of the basic parts of the game- amd hopefully have a protag locked in!

My fave is C. I'd love to get into the mind of a mom.

I think if we could do the stay-at-home mom protag, we could make her do all the chores and when she's done, spend the rest of the time watching TV... And what about a bunch of movie references and etc? I think that'd be cute. I'm doing something along those lines in my game too

Speaking of, I doodled Mom protagonist. I gave her ugly grey jogging pants and stud earrings and a red bandana in place of the clip... Sucks that I'm on mobile and I can't post pictures. I've also given her the name Miriam. (Mainly because I have an affinity for names that start with M lol) She probably has at least 2 kids that are under 10 years old. She herself has got to be maybe in her early 30s. Just my thoughts.

I feel so bad not being able to post my doodles on here but mobile sucks!! Just for kicks, weapons are a broom and meat cleaver and chasers... are dust bunnies. Of course, this doesn't have to be the protag but I'm really having fun with this mommy concept. I'll post my art as soon as I can!

You know I love F the best, Moga, so that has my vote. I'm still debating whether to design my own, but we can probably make a poll with everyone's designs and pick who wins.
Also, since Moga and I were talking about this, would everyone be up for a Skype group to talk about this? I'm infamously unsocial on Skype but I think a group conversation could work. If everyone's comfortable sharing their Skype with each other, that is.

I like the potential there for the housewifer concept myself- it makes way more sense for her to be watching television during the day than say the hikkomori standard. When we do the effects if we vote for mom, then I propose a work outfit effect like Rindre described ~ Also! There is ripe potential for many insecurities to play on- age, kids, husband or lack thereof, other women her age being great things and she is just a simple mom, plus some channels could be memories of the past. Also! Rindre find me on Skype if you use it~ oops yeah there is also the idea for us to just log on Skype at once to brainstorm and all
