I don't remember how exactly I found out about Yume Nikki, but I knew about it before I even tried it out for the first time. I decided to look up a playthrough on youtube at some point, but it seemed bland and a bit boring, as I didn't want commentary on it, so I decided to play for myself. It was quite blind gameplay as I knew only about Uboa so it really left an impact on me, but I did have to use wiki help at some points. I still loved it a lot and after it was done I decided to try out some fangames.
The first one I tried was Yume 2kki and.. It was an experience. Not to mention that later I tried .flow and Yume Nisshi as well and though they were great I can't really play fangames anymore, I'm just way too scared (it's silly I know). But lately I've been trying to build up my courage to try again, because I really want to play them. I actually love gory and creepy stuff, but it's a complicated relationship. (Maybe I should play while talking with friends haha)
I'm sure that you guys have more interesting stories on this ˘ω˘

(FLASHBACK TO THE PAST, BACK IN THE 2010s) Long ago, I stumbled, while searching for some free games to play, upon a thread speaking about Yume Nikki. Then I got interested, watched a video about it and played it. The rest of the story is story. First fangame I tried? Yume 2kki. And it was first the outdated english translation, then the japanese version. Later on, I had created my first Yume Nikki fangame (that REALLY sucked) called The Door. There was another that I made called Remedy, but this isn't the thread for discarded projects of the past.

I'll put my introduction to Yume Nikki in the next post.

Back in... around August 2011, I was buddies with someone, and we mainly wrote Hetalia fanfictions and extremely stupid crossover ships. I was in a chatroom with another friend and we were RPing, and my friend decided to RP as Madotsuki. I had no idea what Yume Nikki or Madotsuki was at the time. They shipped Madotsuki and Masada passionately... Knowing my friend's taste in yaoi, I thought Madotsuki and Masada was a BL couple. They began to talk about .flow and The Looking Glass. I liked TLG and .flow so much, but I didn't know they were fangames. I also didn't know I could make my own game, so I downloaded RM2K3. I played .flow under the impression that it was Yume Nikki itself, and finished it in about two days. (I downloaded Yume Nikki soon after and finished it on October 31 2011... ahh, the glory of finding all effects!!) My first fangame that I knew was a fangame was Answered Prayers. Then I played Me.

Funnily enough, I think either Google or TVTropes or something introduced me to it back in 2009. All I remember is looking up the word Hikikomori (I was in a SZS phase and Komori Kiri was my favorite character), found a screenshot of Yume Nikki's nexus and a basic synopsis of it, decided to play it and ended up playing it for a few hours that night and into morning with only a Gamefaqs guide for effects I had trouble with (like the towel and that one ghost one).
Later on, I heard mentions of it again and how it apparently had its own following and a Chan, so I went to Uboachan in 2010 and found out about Uboa and the Monochrome girls (I already found Masada and went to Mars by myself, as well as Face, but never actually saw those three at that time). Heard a bit about 2kki and .flow, went to the fangame section. First ended up playing Answered Prayers and I loved it, then May and The Looking Glass (the version with the panda and the lever thing), then after figuring out the Japanese stuff I got LcdDem and .flow. In the meantime, I got inspired to make my own game.

I think I found Yume Nikki through random YouTube videos during my hardcore meme phase (everybody has one). Uboa was in one of those random videos, I thought Uboa looked really funny. Then I saw the event and it scared me a lot, I guess I was kind of sensitive at the time. I noped, and tried to forget about Uboa, but kept seeing it everywhere, even in random plz accounts from deviantART! So I tried to find out more about "that one game with Uboa in it" and the more I found, the more scared I was and the more I loved it. I watched the FACE event... then promised myself not to get near Yume Nikki ever again.
Eventually curiosity got me again, but this time the game didn't seem that scary. I looked for YN related art on deviantART and found the Pipi thread on Uboachan. I thought "Hey, what a nice and creative fandom! I'm definitely joining!" and made a Yume Nikki meme about what my mind would look like in a fangame. That idea became Someday, after I changed a lot of stuff so that Itsuki wouldn't be a self-insert, and so that it looked more professional and less reference-y.
The first fangame I played was The Looking Glass, and LcdDem was the first Japanese fangame I played, when PSIWolf translated v0.030 to English. If it wasn't for Rindre and Lichamespia maybe I wouldn't have created Someday, ever.

I'm not sure if Seth reworked the boards and removed it, but I put an idea board where discarded/potential game concepts could be put in. Maybe you could talk about those games there. I'll put my introduction to Yume Nikki in the next post. I originally removed it to try and consolidate how many boards there were. A stickied thread under game development would be more than enough I had thought, but after all the work I put into organizing everything, I forgot to sticky the thread. > _ > " It's there now. There's also a board for talking about cancelled games, it's just a sub board under game development. - As for Yume Nikki, I got into it after I stayed the night at my friends house. We were up literally all night and she lives in the same complex as my other friend, so we went to their house together. Friend 2 was playing Yume Nikki and I kept dozing off on the couch. I remember waking up and looking at their computer and seeing the outside of Poniko's house and thinking how beautiful it was, so later I downloaded it and.... Well, the obsession set in pretty fast!

I don't remember exactly how I got into yume nikki. Actually, I think I might have found uboachan and other related communities before I actually tried a serious playthrough of the game...! I lurked for a long time, playing lots more fangames.
I remember the first fangame I played was Answered Prayers. Around the time Noyemi's first Hell Diary came out was the time i started giving serious thought to making my own games. I spent one christmas break doing nothing but drawing out my first characters and game ideas. I still have sketchbooks full of them.

I kinda found out about Yume Nikki in a silly way, a few years ago (About 2009-10?) I was just kinda derping around on Memebase cuz I was bored and found the article on Uboa and I (in a sort of "What the Jesus is that?" kinda mindset) began to read it and then I learned about Yume Nikki. I was fascinated by it's mysterious nature and it's surreal and nostalgic art style. However my being paranoid about downloading games kept me from trying it for myself so it kinda slipped out of my mind but then a couple years later, for some unknown reason I started to remember the game and after hearing mention off it from the YouTuber Raocow I decided I'd look more into it then watching playthroughs of it and learning about some of the fangames ended up selling me on it.
The first fangame I learned of was Yume 2kki but due to not being able to make it work for a while the first one I ended up actually playing was Me.
I haven't been a quote on quote "legit" fan for very long but I've enjoyed my time in the community and am hoping to make my own fangames.

Well I found a remix for one of YN's BGMs on Youtube. The person who made it recommended the game in the video description, so I looked it up. After completing the game and reading some theories, I heard about these things called 'YN fangames'. I think either Yume 2kki or Answered Prayers was my first fg.

Tvtropes said it was weird and well thats all i needed to convince me to play it
.flow was my first fangame but i didnt really play it much, hell I never really played YN that much either because I would play them sporadically and forget what led where
A long time later I downloaded The Looking Glass and that was the first fangame that I played at a great length. The first fangame I've ever beaten (and I do try to refrain from looking up information, so it was pretty much entirely legit) was LCD DEM fairly recently.

My first experience with Yume Nikki was Uboa. At first, I thought it was some weird version of Snape from harry potter. I ignored Uboa and went on to fangirl about other things. Then I was thrown into the world of horror. Silent Hill was my first taste of horror games in general, soon followed by the Resident Evil series, Creepypasta, and eventually my first psychological horror game. The first time I got a taste for Psychological Horror(PH), was a small indie game called The Path. I was soon obsessed with the game. I eventually found out what kind of Horror game it was called. I soon found more and more PH horror games, and soon, I found Yume Nikki. I looked up a couple of things about the game, and I found Uboa again. (I still think that it's a weird, scarier version of Snape.) So, I downloaded the game, and played it for awhile. Soon, I got the blonde haired girl's house, and just to see if it would happen, I turned off the lights. GOT IT ON THE FIRST TRY MOTHERFUCKERS. BELIEVE THAT. I freaked the fuck out, trying to get out of the room, and eventually I just shut off the game. That dissuaded from playing it again for awhile. Then I found the fangames, I got into them, and then I finally finished Yume Nikki! ....I never knew what happened in the ending until I finished it. God, I was like, crying for 10 minutes. ;A; Poor Maddy... But yeah, that's how I got into Yume Nikki and it's fangames.

i found Yume Nikki through videos on youtube back in 2011 i believe. i saw a full playthrough of it so it didn't take too long for me to be spoiled on it ^^'. i liked it well enough, although i was young and airheaded so it didn't really have much an impact on me i guess ?? anyway, the first fangame i found was .flow which i discovered through this video (i also watched a few videos of the endings as well as the OST). funny enough, i didn't play either of them 'till like, early January 2015 as i kept coming across fanart of both and i eventually went ''... i should actually play this''. .flow was actually what i downloaded and played first, and i beat it after a couple weeks! it left quite an impression on me and was my favorite for a long time! i then played and beat Yume Nikki. i eventually found the fangame wiki and downloaded a few more from there (2kki, LCDDEM, Me, AP, etc.). and then over the next year i kept coming back and finding more fangames to play which cemented my interest

How I got into Yume Nikki? That's a long and funny (I think) story. The story stared in 2010 if I'm not wrong, in that year I loved to lose my time playing random flashgames. I was playing this thing and reading comments I saw some people saying it was similar to a weird Yume Nikki thing. Innocent me, I decided to search about Yume Nikki because I really loved that flashgame and wanted to play something similar, I lost all the motivation to play it when I read about people calling it an horror game (I'm really coward) and I forget about it until 2012 when I went to visit a friend who loved playing RPG Maker games, she found about Yume Nikki and I told her it was an horror game to discourage her (she knew I didn't like horror-related stuff) but she played it anyway (true friendship), needless to say, the game didn't scare me, on the contrary, I found it very nice and relaxing. After that I think I posted something about "this nice Yume Nikki game" in a forum or something and some random guy told me about fangames. My first fangame was either Yume 2kki o .flow (more probably .flow tbh) and if I can recall my first western fangame was the Looking Glass (or maybe Me, but I'm almost sure it was TLG). After playing some fangames and seeing how some of them looked like something that a normal human being could make (I'm talking about mid-2012, sometime between June and August) I decided to create my own fangame (and I'm too slow that I just released the first demo two years ago, perfect).

I can't really remember but I know it had to be around 2010 or before. It became a very important influence on my life and I remember playing through it all, using a walkthrough towards the end (I had found most effects all by myself but it got to a point where I had no idea how the game ends). The next game I tried playing was .flow but I got lost a lot and never finished it. I had a great interest in LcdDem but hearing the creator say they want everyone to forget about it made me stay away, while being even more curious.
Not exactly a fangame but my interest in RPGmaker games reignited back when Ib was released and then solidified when OFF came out. Since then I've been a lurker in the fandom, but my Windows computer died and all I have is a mac now so I haven't been able to play much lately. If something is "disturbing" I end up all over it, so it was my natural interest that led me to all of this.
